Executive Director

Eric Stockinger

Eric joined AC in June 2007. His background includes a degree in Fisheries and Wildlife Management from Michigan State University and seven years of business/personnel management with REI. Eric is a graduate of the Apprenticeshop and a long-time cabinetry and furniture maker. After two years as our Apprenticeshop Director, Eric accepted the role of Executive Director in September 2009.

Kevin Carney

Kevin has been teaching boat building since 1987. After graduating from VA Tech with a degree in design, Kevin moved to Maine to pursue an education in traditional boat building -- at the Apprenticeshop in Bath, Maine. He also studied at Yacht Design, Inc. and worked for nine years as a professional boat builder before returning to The Apprenticeshop as lead instructor.

Brian McClellan

Brian joined the Shop in late January 2008. A 2002 Shop graduate, he has spent the last 6 years building boats internationally. Most recently, Brian worked in Indonesia conducting boat building training and overseeing the production of fishing boats for the victims of the 2005 tsunami. The first 24 years of his life was spent far from the sea in Kansas where he studied math, computer science and physics as an undergraduate at Mid-America Nazarene University and began graduate work in architecture at the University of Kansas.

Waterfront Programs Director

Kevin (KC) Heyniger

KC was AC's Waterfront Programs Coordinator from 2001-2005 and rejoined us in May, 2009. He brings an extensive background in youth and adult sailing, knowledge and experience with traditional and modern sailboats, teaching, ocean voyaging, boat maintenance and boatyard operations. KC is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Madison, holding a MS degree in Science Writing. KC, his wife, Gretchen Kuhn, and their twins, Audrey and Carver make their home in Rockland.

Development Director

Margaret L. Macleod

Margaret came to AC in September of 2009. A graduate of Skidmore College, Margaret brings with her a strong background in nonprofit management.  For seven years, she worked for Maine’s largest environmental organization, Maine Audubon, as Director of Field Trips, and then went on to head the fundraising efforts at Ashwood Waldorf School in Rockport.  A Maine native, Margaret grew up in Yarmouth, learned to sail at the Portland Yacht Club, and has fond memories of summers cruising the Maine coast with her family in their Concordia Yawl. Currently she lives in Belfast with her daughter Kate.

Apprenticeshop Manager

George Sprague

George joined the Atlantic Challenge team in June of 2009 supporting the waterfront, and accepted the position of Apprenticeshop Manager in November of 2009. A 2008 graduate of the Apprenticeshop, George’s professional background includes a wide variety of experience including 11 years of military service. In addition to his work at AC, he is also currently pursuing a degree in small business management at the University of Maine.

Administrative Assistant

Mary Ellen Kelleher

Mary Ellen joined AC in mid-April of 2008. A graduate of Mt. Holyoke College, Mary Ellen brings extensive office experience working in small non--profits and similar education institutions on Cape Cod.

 

Bookkeeper

Sheryl Parker

Sheryl graduated from Husson College in 1991 with a degree in Business Education.  After teaching math and business subjects to middle level and high school students she started a small accounting business out of her home in 1997.  She began her work as bookkeeper for Atlantic Challenge in March of 2000.  Sheryl lives in Tenants Harbor with her three children, Christopher, Mary and Greta.
