Many sailors bring a small bag with their gear to help keep them
comfortable and safe while enjoying their time on the water.
Bring clothes and gear for both warm and cool conditions. Weather
and wind can change during a lesson. Multiple layers give you many
options. For example, wear shorts and a short-sleeve-shirt, bring
a warmer long sleeve shirt and pants, and a waterproof wind-breaker.
The best fabrics are synthetics that dry quickly. The most common
are polypropeline and capilene. Wool sweaters are good for the same
reasons. Avoid cotton when possible.
Wear comfortable, boat appropriate, foot-wear that you don’t mind getting wet. For
example, canvas sneakers, Aqua-sox, or similar footwear.
A hat for the sun or a warm hat if it’s cold.
Sunglasses and sunscreen.
Water bottle.
For full day programs, please pack a lunch or hearty snacks. Sailing burns energy!
Although Atlantic Challenge has life-jackets, we strongly recommend you bring your own comfortable and proper
fitting life jacket.
Tie a whistle to the life-jacket. You can check with your instructor
for additional life-jacket details.
